Interviewer:
Now, there's a lot of talk around gene editing therapies, a lot of excitement. Can you give us an update on where that is and how far away...how far are we from actually having real world solutions to help sickle cell patients?
Dr. Seethal Jacob:
Gene editing and gene therapy is so exciting. I think it provides another curative option for our patients who don't have a bone marrow donor, for example, for transplant. I think there are lots of different gene therapy techniques. They are currently under investigation in clinical trials and are probably still too early to know whether or not this is something that's going to be widely available and for what age groups and for what particular subtypes of sickle cell patients. Those are things that we're still learning in our clinical trials. I will say the results of the trials thus far have been...there are definitely promising results and makes us all hopeful that we have a potentially more broad option for cure for our patients with sickle cell disease, but we're still fairly far away from it being widely available, I think for our patients with sickle cell.
